The Weaver Elementary School Ambassadors celebrated on Tuesday the culmination of the Big Red Bucket, a holiday food drive in support of two important local organizations: The Long Beach Rescue Mission and We CARE, located in Los Alamitos.
Brownies Visit WE CARE Facility
The Girls Scout Brownies of Troop 754 recently took a tour of WE CARE of Los Alamitos. Colleen Lowe, President of the Board at WE CARE took the girls on the tour. The girls got to see the food pantry and other donations that WE CARE has received to use for their mission. WE CARE’s mission is to do their best to keep families within the community safely housed, by providing a comprehensive, seamless range of services that begin by preventing homelessness whenever possible.
6th Annual From the Heart Fundraiser
Did you know that according to the American Family Housing Census, there are over 30,000 homeless people living in Orange County? One-third of these homeless are families with working parents and school-age children! Over the past year, We Care has provided nearly 250 families in North Orange County with rental and mortgage assistance so they could remain in their homes. In addition, over $10,000 was provided to families to pay their utilities while almost 9,000 bags of groceries were given to keep food on the tables of more than 2,250 families! Despite the loss of Federal Funds in 2011, We Care was able to assist more than ten thousand individuals in need.
