On Aug. 11, Jaelyn (J.J.) Sagen held her seventh annual Lemonade Stand to benefit We Care and raised a total of more than $30,000 for We Care.
When JJ was 6 years old she noticed a homeless man, and told her mom she wanted to start a Lemonade Stand to help people in need. JJ then decided to contribute all her yearly donations to We Care.
It all began last April at the annual We Care “From the Heart” Fundraiser in Los Alamitos, and ended in September with a fantastic Moroccan themed party including a live camel. We Care live auction winners Julie and Tim Kadletz, Sharon and Butch Anderson, Ann and Steve Collins, Margaret and Jim Tyler and Suzi snd Tony Olsen were the lucky guests at the magical Moroccan party. Upon arriving via magic carpet (limousine) and meeting their party camel JJ, guests enjoyed delicious Moroccan food and drinks while watching a belly dancer perform for them.
In February Blue Moon Boutique raised $2,200 for We Care. Patti Blake, owner of Blue Moon Boutique, recently presented a check for this amount to Rob Lowenberg, the Executive Director of We Care. Each month Blue Moon Boutique donates a percentage of sales to a local charity, and has donated more than $90,000 since opening in 2012.
Blue Moon Boutique carries fashion clothing, unique jewelry, accessories and home items. Blue Moon Boutique is open daily at 5256 Lampson Avenue in West Garden Grove, 714 893-8275.

WE CARE helps up to 125 families a month, including Leisure World residents struggling with vagaries of life.
“Our goal is to keep people in their homes, to prevent homelessness, however we can,” said Lowenberg. And they are doing a good job of reaching that goal.”
“It’s a daily grind, but the daily grind is worth it. If we can’t put this together, there will be a host of people who suffer needlessly,” said Thompson. “If we can identify even one person a month who we successfully helped, it’s all worthwhile.”

Members of the South Coast Chapter of National Charity League recently presented a $10,200 check to WE CARE.
The charity, located at 3788 Cerritos Avenue in Los Alamitos, is a non-profit organization that pools the resources of the community to meet the emergency needs of families and individuals such as rental assistance, utility assistance, DMV fees, food, personal care items, clothes and more.
